Eating Through: Madrid Part I

January 31, 2019

Here I am returning to the blogging world, and for good this time! And what makes a better return than telling you guys all the best places to ignore your diet and eat the best food you can get your hands on? Nothing, the answer is nothing.

I started off my year in sunny Madrid, a city where you can wander through and eat tapas and sip sangria to your hearts desire. During my stay here I can promise you, I was not short for choice when it came to deciding what I wanted to dive right into.

I'm not going to lie, I ate a mountain load of food, so this will have to be made into a two part series (sorry for my major appetite guys!). So here it is, part one of the best food spots I found in Madrid!

Tapa Tapa had a wide variety of dishes to choose from ranging from fish to meat and even vegetarian options. The food was tasty, the meatballs melt in your mouth, the potatoes and calamari are nice and crisp, and the anchovies were mouthwatering (the perfect dish to cut across all that fried food!). The food came out quickly and hot, and was in a central location which makes it easy for people like me (you know, those ones with no sense of direction) to find the restaurant.

This restaurant was so so good and right that it almost felt wrong. And when I say good, I mean damn good (I mean, look how many photos I had to upload here to get my point across!). The atmosphere was second to none when it came to everywhere that I ate in Madrid. The customers was buzzing and the atmosphere was lively and social, it just couldn't be beat. And on top of that the food was some of the absolute best I had the entire trip. The meat platter was an over the top size, but that definitely didn't take away from the quality - tender, juicy and delicious chicken, beef, and sausages - it was an experience like no other. The sizzling prawns, were made fresh and came bubbling at the table in that flavourful olive oil. I was honestly so excited to eat them that I burnt the roof of my mouth, but it was totally worth it. Finally, while not traditionally a regional dish, they do it well - the seafood paella was rich in saffron and plenty of seafood - a perfect dish in my books.

So who's a sucker for seafood and platters? That's right, I am. And maybe you will be too after I explain to you just how good this tapas bar was. Just around the corner from Alhambra Bar, standing in this spot is what I would call tradition at its finest - very delicious and incredibly affordable food, with some of the nicest staff despite the language barrier - Casa Toni has little to no competition in my eyes. The meat platter had an array of different things to sample, and the calamari was fresh and lightly battered. This is a place that I can tell you, you should not and can not miss. If you walk by and it's looking a bit full, worry not, they have an entire second floor full of tables waiting to be filled up with your food orders!
